Her quest for freedom plunges her into dangerous waters…of desire.

Wasteland, Book 3

Bryn is a “Rose”, but her life is no garden. A stolen child, prostitution is the only life she’s ever known—except on the nights she sneaks out in stolen men’s clothing to explore the city. A tiny taste of freedom that makes her long for a life outside sexual servitude, at the mercy of any man who can pay.

Xander remembers no other home except his pirate ship, smuggling weapons or anything else for a fee. He’s been happy with his life and his lover, Hawke…until he rescues who he thinks is a young man from robbers.

Figuring she can blend in with the crew, Bryn jumps at the chance to escape the Brothel. Then she discovers Xander and Hawke have a taste for pretty boys—and that she has a taste for them. In their arms, she embraces their incredible gift control of her own sexuality.

Though women are considered bad luck at sea, Xander isn’t of a mind to give her up. Yet the time is drawing near when the ship must return to Wasteland to resupply. And what awaits them there is a danger that could tear them apart.

Warning Contains hot pirates, bad boys, pretty boys, lots of three-way pirate sex, a woman spanking a pirate with a rare-wood paddle, a glass dildo used on a pirate—have we mentioned the pirates?

The premise for the Wasteland series is fantastic. Four novellas written about the four different caste systems of women in the post-apocalyptic world of earth years after a solar flare in 2012 destroyed civilization as we know it. Lilli Feisty has given us the second book in the series, The Whore, a story about a young woman named Bryn. Wearing the tattoo of a rose on her earlobe that marks her as a prostitute, Bryn is constrained by the limitations of her female gender and after a lifetime of prostitution, has no love for males of her species. She's an independent soul who yearns for freedom from the brothel that serves as both her protection and her prison. Often she slips into the clothes of her patrons and sneaks out into the male-dominated city for glimpses of life free of the restraints she's bound by.

One such night she stumbles onto a pack of boys that are interested in the earbob hiding her tattoo. Bryn tries to fight them off, knowing if they find out she's a Rose (that's what whore's are called) she'll be horribly punished and lose even the smallest freedom. She's rescued by a pair of men who look like pirates and who step in and take care of the youth before letting her go on her way. Bryn is so overwhelmed by their help and camaraderie...and obvious affection for one another...that she's compelled to follow them back to the docks. Before she knows it, she's committed herself to work on the pirate ship captained by Xander, doing work that she's never had to do before even as she tries to hide her femininity from the men on the ship. Xander and his first mate and lover Hawke, however, aren't fooled by her disguise, and soon they've drawn her into a sexual situation that captivates and titillates Bryn, and despite her dislike of sex with males, she finds herself aroused to nearly unholy levels at the idea and participation of sex with Xander and Hawke. Her freedom at hand, Bryn surrenders to need, want, and love as Xander and Hawke remind her what it's like to be a woman.

I enjoyed the sexuality of this novella, and thought the menage relationship was well written and quite hot, but for me, the narrative surrounding it was a little light on plot and while I felt Bryn was very well defined as a character, I never fully got a clear picture of Xander or of Hawke as well defined characters beyond their sexuality. There was an scene with Xander at the beginning of the story that setup some interesting conflict, but ultimately it went nowhere. I also had some problem considering this story a romance. Where the previous book in the series, Crystal Jordan's Wasteland: The Wanderer provided an emotionally satisfying relationship paired with the erotic aspects of the story and the definition of the world, I felt that was sorely lacking here and it prevented me from fully enjoying the whole of the story and engaging with the characters.

Wasteland The Whore edition by Lilli Feisty Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Different genre. Not bad overall. I usually read suspense thrillers and this book was a bit too raw for me.
I loved this story all much! The self discovery, the promise of a better future, the super hot sex... how does it get any better than that?
A great fun fast read, how can you go wrong with pirates. Loved Xander Hawke and Bryn's story. This is the first book I have read by Lilli Feisty and will be exploring other titles by her in the future.
She was chosen to be a whore by the Priestess when she was young, but she has become unhappy with being one. She has to escape but how and where. Enjoyed reading this book. Do not start reading at night since you will not be able to put it away to sleep until you are done.
Wasteland is set in a futuristic, post apocalyptic world where Bryn, a Rose, should consider herself fortunate to have have food, shelter and protection. Although prostitution is all she has ever known she longs to be in control of her life as well as her sexuality. When she is rescued by two pirates and given the chance at a different and unknown future she takes it. In her adventures she discovers a chance to make her dreams of self empowerment come true and then some.

Impressions after the first chapter Yo, Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore. This is completely different from anything I've read from Lilli Feisty. I've actually only read her contemporary erotic romances so this is an interesting change.

The Hero There are two heroes in The Whore. Xander, a dirty sexy pirate with a soft side who is actually a good guy. His lover Hawke, was not particularly interesting to me. I didn't necessarily dislike him, but he was not a stand out character for me. Xander was the pirate for me.

The Heroine Bryn, appears to be a victim of her life's circumstances forced to work as a whore in a brothel. She is brave, spirited, yet reserved and longs for independence and self empowerment. The courage that it took for her to leave the brothel where she is used, but protected, in search of a different life was admirable, especially since she was facing the unknown.

What worked The post apocalyptic world in which the story is based is a dark, dangerous place in which women are mostly powerless. Lilli Feisty did a wonderful job giving the reader a good clear feel for the despair and inner turmoil of the heroine and the overall feel of the dangerous world this novella is based in.

What didn't work Although the sex scenes are very steamy, consisting of m/m, m/f/m and voyeurism, I never fully bought into the idea that Bryn immersed herself into a fulfilling sexual relationship with Xander and Hawke so quickly. Granted this is a novella, and I often find that relationships are rushed probably due to limited word count, but Bryn was rescued, and on the ship only a very short amount of time before she was engaged in a threesome with Xander and Hawke. After living a life of sexual servitude, I would have thought she'd need a little more time before entering into an intimate relationship since that was the way of life she was trying to leave behind.

Final conclusion This type of sci-fi erotic fantasy is not my usual choice of genre, however I very much enjoyed this quick read. I think overall it was a nicely rounded story, laced with a bit sexy pirate romance, and a heroine that I came to like very much. What I love about Lilli Feisty's writing is her attention to character development in her heroines. I always come away from reading her stories feeling like I know her heroines well. Although I didn't understand Bryn's need to enter into a sexual relationship with Xander and Hawke so quickly, I still feel like I got to know her and like her very much. I enjoyed this erotic sci-fi fantasy, however I think I prefer Ms. Feisty's erotic contemporaries. Still, it was fun to try something different than what I'm used to from a favorite author.
